Another year is finally coming to an end. We will not cry over the bad days. We will not despair over failures. We will not forget the lessons learnt. We will not let any incident from the past devastate us or make us less courageous and we will never stop believing in progress, love and humanity.

August 3: Goods and Services Tax (India) Bill passed in parliament
August 9: Manipur activist Irom Sharmila ended her 16 years of hunger strike. is a civil rights activist, political activist, and poet from the Indian state of Manipur. On 2 November 2000, she began a hunger strike which she ended on 9 August 2016, after 16 years of fasting. Having refused food and water for more than 500 weeks, she has been called “the world’s longest hunger striker”.
November 8: The Indian government withdraws ₹500 and ₹1000 banknotes with immediate effect. New notes will be issued to the nation. Caused political uproar.
November 30: Supreme Court of India ordered cinemas to play national anthem before films
December 5: Tamilnadu CM J Jayalalithaa who has been hospitalized for 72 days in Apollo Hospital was officially announced as dead after suffering Cardiac arrest.
December 15: Supreme Court bans sale of liquor on national and state highways due to large number of road accidents caused by drunks every year
