“Stepping up to the plate” is one of those American sports metaphors that is widely used in the business world. This phrase has several broad interpretations. It means ‘to face up to one’s responsibilities or meet one’s obligations’.

Some components of ‘stepping up’ are:

  • appetite for a challenge
  • the responsibility factor
  • confidence about meeting the challenge
  • ingenuity and innovation
  • tapping into one’s full potential
  • it is beyond simple volunteering

After one has stepped up to the plate, his/her life and career will change forever. The changes may be:

  • stardom and super-stardom
  • baptism-by-fire
  • win even not completely delivered
